SONG BO

pr is over!
-dances around in victory dance...thinks about dancing naked...decides that it might scare people-

oh what relief.

as celebration, i went for drinks with char. at marrakesh at clarke quay. it was nice just sitting amidst the crowd, knowing i have nothing much to do this weekend, thinking of what nail colour to paint my nails and wondering if i am missing out on some massina stuff.

prior to that, me and pearl went to a press screening of deepa mehta's new hindi film, Water.

i know, you think its all about some man who loves this woman who is of a higher class so he cannot marry her and his best friend is going to marry her and then they make matters complicated by dancing and singing to insanely long songs.

no. i think this film was the best docu-movie i have ever watched.

Water circles around the life of widows in India. Set in 1938, this film explores the tragic lives of women who are bethroned to old men and when their husbands die, their dignity and pride die too.

As tradition, a widow is to shave her head, wear only a white tunic and stay in widow houses along side eunuchs (hidras), criminals and the outcast of society.

Young chuyia is only 7 when her husband dies. she is forced to live in a widow house and meets INSANELY GORGEOUS kalyani and they both get into trouble and chance upon vinod-reminding Narayan, a young promising lawyer who is an ardent ghandi supporter.

no la, no spoiler.

anyone interested in social issues and love should catch this film. it's very poignant and extremely thought-provoking. and i think pearl is going to write an article about it in urbanwire.

i, on the other hand, have nothing to write this weekend.
